French Riviera Travel Guide: Saint-Tropez
You can watch our vlog from our time in Saint-Tropez on my Youtube Channel here.
Celebrities have flocked to this French Riviera town for decades and for good reason. Not only does it boast exclusive beach clubs, super yachts, and exquisite restaurants, but it also has the most charming cobblestoned streets that you could get lost in for hours.
There were a few options to get from Paris to the South of France, so we opted for a flight because it was the quickest and surprisingly the cheapest option as well.
We booked a flight on Easy Jet from Paris Orly airport to Toulon. The flight was about an hour and a half, and then we took an Uber from Toulon to Saint-Tropez, which was about an hour drive.
Once we arrived in Saint-Tropez, Fred and I both knew this town was going to be something special. It immediately reminded us of our favorite town in the Amalfi Coast of Italy - Positano.
We stayed at an Airbnb while in Saint-Tropez and it was in the best location we could’ve asked for - literally steps from all of the amazing shops and restaurants. As soon as we got settled in, we headed out to walk around and check out the scene.
Our first stop was at Cafe de Paris for a drink, appetizer and of course - some people watching. Saint-Tropez is a port city on the Mediterranean, so there were several yachts (and superyachts) docked during our stay. From our location in Cafe de Paris, we got to witness the people who owned/chartered the superyachts having a good time. It was quite an atmosphere and certainly a different vibe from what we experienced in Paris.
Although I do lots of research before our trips about what restaurants are popular or would like to eat at, I decided not to make any reservations ahead of time for Saint-Tropez and was happy that we were a little more spontaneous because it gave us an opportunity to get input from the locals and also just get lost in this charming little town.
For our first dinner, we stumbled upon this quaint restaurant called L’Olive. They offer a generous Mediterranean & Provençal menu and their prices are very reasonable. I had their gnocchi a la truffle - literally two of my favorite ingredients - and Fred had a local fish dish (which I can’t for the life of me remember exactly what it was). One of my favorite things about this restaurant was their menu, which was a chalkboard on which they had written the seasonal dishes that they offer and bring directly to your table. There were only about 10 tables in total and only 2 people waiting on the tables but the service was amazing nonetheless.
Our second day in Saint-Tropez began with breakfast at what we soon discovered to be an overpriced tourist trap 🤷♀️ but I will say the food was good and plentiful. The restaurant was called Sénéquier and although it was overpriced, the view certainly made up for it.
After breakfast, we took a boat tour aboard the Brigantin II. When we were looking up things to do in Saint-Tropez, this was one of the things that interested us. It is a family-owned business and very inexpensive. It was fun to learn some history about Saint-Tropez and also see some of the estates owned by famous celebrities like Brigitte Bardot and Bernard Arnault (cofounder of Louis Vuitton).
Victoria (one of the owners of Brigantin II) recommended we have a cocktail at the rooftop terrace at Hôtel de Paris so when the tour concluded we walked over to check it out. The hotel was absolutely beautiful but we were underwhelmed with the rooftop area. We stayed for one drink and then made our way to see about getting a reservation at a place I had my eye on for dinner called L’Opera.
The photo below is the only good one I had from the evening at L’Opera but Fred took plenty of vlog footage so be sure you’re subscribed to my Youtube Channel. It was certainly a unique dining experience and we will definitely come back the next time we are in the French Riviera.
Our final day in Saint-Tropez began with breakfast at a local favorite - Créperie Bretonne. Fred loves sweet crepes and I usually go for a savory option but we decided to order three different ones to try and they were all delicious!
We couldn’t come to France and not visit at least one vineyard and the Provence region is known for Rosê - which is one of my absolute favorites - especially in the summer time.
Several locals recommended Chateau Minuty so we called an Uber to check it out. Although they specialize in predominantly Rosé wines, they also have white and reds as well. We were able to do a complimentary tasting of 3 wines each, so we chose different ones so we could taste 6 in total. There were 2 wines we loved the most and bought a bottle of each to take with us. I wanted to buy more bottles but didn’t have much room to spare in my luggage - fashionsta probs I suppose. 🤷♀️
I will say if you’re planning to visit any of the winery’s while in the area, definitely hire a car service or book a tour with a guide (which includes transportation). Since we planned this kind of last minute, we didn’t hire a car service and it was quite difficult to get an Uber or taxi back to Saint-Tropez.
When we finally made it back to Saint-Tropez from visiting Chateau Minuty, we walked around to do some shopping and stopped by a pastry shop we had seen a few times and wanted to try. I’m not sure of the name of this pastry we got but it was absolutely delicious.
We then made our way to Cohibar for a cocktail before our last dinner at a local favorite Thai Restaurant - Koh Petrie which was absolutely delicious! I ordered their shrimp pad Thai and Fred had the boeuf basilic Thaï with a side of sautéed veggies. The food here was excellent and the service was amazing as well. It was definitely a great experience.
If you’re planning a trip to the French Riviera I highly recommended Saint-Tropez. We stayed for 3 days but could’ve easily stayed longer. The people were wonderful, the food was delicious, and the vibe is exactly what I look for in a Mediterranean vacation spot.
