Green Smoothie Recipe
Summer is just around the corner and I’m sure most of us want to look our best in our swimwear. I know that I am guilty of not getting enough greens into my diet everyday so this smoothie is an easy way to get them in. This recipe has quickly become my go-to in the mornings when I have a day off from traveling. It is great to have first thing when you wake up because it keeps you full and gives you energy.
During sleep, the human body goes through a natural detoxification process so when you wake up in the morning think of your body as a clean slate. Putting raw fruits and greens into your body is much better than greasy bacon, or processed cheese.
Coconut water has natural electrolytes, which also makes this smoothie a great pre-workout recipe. If you don’t have coconut water you can substitute with regular water instead.
Adding turmeric and ginger root may seem a little odd but they are both great for you. Turmeric is a strong antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory effects, while ginger is great for digestion.
I slice bananas and put them in the freezer so I always have them on hand, and buy pre-sliced/frozen mangoes from the grocery store.
Recipe:
1-2 cups of spinach
1/2 frozen banana slices
1/2 apple of your choice (I prefer Gala or Fuji)
1/4 cup frozen mango slices
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 inch piece of ginger and turmeric root, both peeled and sliced
6 oz. coconut water
If you give this recipe a try, leave me a comment to let me know your thoughts. Also, if you substitute any ingredients I would love to hear what you used instead. Hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as I have!
